Sorting Out Your Plastic Recycling Questions

At Livermore Recycles, we love to help folks recycle right. So, we were thrilled when Kimberley contacted us, saying she had recycling questions. We asked if we could answer her in person and take a little video of such an enthusiastic recycler…and she agreed!

Kimberley had collected some items that she was unsure about, and Anna from Livermore Recycles was delighted to be her recycling coach:

Kimberley: “How about empty laundry detergent jugs and caps?”

Anna: “A big YES! This is one of our most recyclable plastics – and yes, keep the cap on! Toss that empty plastic bottle right into the Recycling.”

Kimberley: “This strawberry container is plastic, so…?”

Anna: “Not everything plastic can go in the Recycling! Is it plastic, but not a jar, a tub or a bottle? Like this strawberry container, Into the Garbage it goes!”

Kimberley: “How about this one? I WANT this to be recyclable!”

Anna: “Sorry, wishcycling doesn’t work. Those common black takeout containers can’t be recycled and need to be tossed in the Garbage.”

Kimberley: “I don’t know what to do with this thing…?”

Anna: “Those aseptic containers that keep your soup and soy milk fresh unfortunately are made of LOTS of different layers and cannot be recycled…into the Garbage with them!”

Kimberley: “And this metal sunscreen bottle?”

Anna: “The metal in cans and bottles can be recycled over and over…when placed in the blue Recycling cart!”
