3 Tips to Host a Zero Waste Party!

Whether hosting a holiday gathering or big game, there are ways to make any occasion more zero-waste friendly. When a party is less wasteful – it’s a win for everyone!

Here are 3 simple ways to host a zero-waste party:

1. Plan Ahead.

Yes, we want the table to be filled with tempting goodies…but none to throw away at the end of the night! Plan ahead by asking yourself – how many people will attend? What will I serve and in what quantities? Will my guests be bringing dishes to share, and if so, what’s needed? By answering these questions, you can make a better shopping list and save money by not over buying! You can provide guests with containers or encourage them to bring their own so that at the end of the night, any leftovers can be shared and enjoyed.

2. Choose Reusables!

Paper plates and napkins, plastic cups and cutlery get a few minutes of use, then a lifetime in the trash! Save money on single-use stuff and make your party special with real plates, cutlery, glasses (or drinking straight from the can), cloth napkins and tablecloths. If you can’t make everything reusable, just switching out whatever you can, will make a difference.

3. Clean-up: Helping Guests to Sort Helps You!

Make clean-up easy during and after your party! Group three clearly labeled containers near the food area marked “Organics” – for all your food scrap and food soiled paper; “Recycling” – for all those bottles and cans; and “Garbage” for everything else. At the end of the party, tote those bins out and dump in the corresponding carts.

By following these  tips, you will save time and money… and waste less! Be sure to share these tips with your guests to inspire their next party too!
