Compost and Recycling Law

Attention Residents:  Compost and Recycling Law

Effective January 1, 2022, California state law (SB 1383) requires that compostable materials be kept out of landfills—including food scraps, paper, cardboard, and plant trimmings—to prevent the production of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The law requires residents to have to curbside compost/organics and recycling collection service and sort materials into the correct bins.

Contact Livermore Sanitation at 925-449-7300 to order a recycling or compost cart or food pail if you don’t already have them.

To learn what goes where visit LivermoreRecycles.org; see what goes in the Organics cart here.
